The FN Minimi (portmanteau of Mini Mitrailleuse) is a light machine gun developed and manufactured by Fabrique Nationale de Herstal, designed for section support. It fires the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge.[1]

Variants

Variants of the FN Minimi are used by the U.S. (FN M249 SAW) and the U.K. (L110A1). A 7.62×51mm NATO variant exists as the Maximi and is used by Australian and New Zealand armed forces.
